Trust Money Gone; Now What Should We Do?

I wasn't told about being part of my mothers & her husbands trust until 7 months after he died (my mom died 10 years ago). And this is only because his kids tried to refinance (they spent all his funds and don't work) and they needed the money to continue to live in his house.

The lawyer told them they can't because there are 6 of us on the trust. The oldest son then calls me and tells me there is really nothing in the estate so can we just sign a quick claim deed so they can stay there (I'm guessing until it forecloses and they all get kicked out on their ears).

I will be getting the paperwork in a day or two. How can we find out if there was money in the bank that should have been divided evenly between us 6 beneficiaries but was actually used up by his 3 kids before we even heard anything.

We live in different states and were never really that close. We are also all grown adults. I have a feeling my sisters and I will have to get a lawyer to get what should be ours legally. Any suggestions or comments from anyone?
